Summer ends on a beach in Maine. A diffuse blue veil envelops the atmosphere, drowning the landscape in a dreamlike, painterly monochrome absorbent cotton. I’m surprised by this rather melancholy, cold-colored atmosphere. Yet people on the beach carry on as if nothing had happened. “So What” …Miles Davis, …Blue is everywhere…
“Blue Moods” … The music comes back to me and obsesses him while he takes photos without stopping.
“So What”.
Some strangers stroll along the beach, others jog. The ballet is rigorously orchestrated: people pass each other without a word, without a greeting. The distance is the same for everyone, half a turn at the end of the line…This reminds me of Giacometti’s “Walking Man”, in search of meaning, like him in front of this singular spectacle.
In this pictorial series, I aspire to translate this poetic “blue” atmosphere, color, and feeling into images, questioning our collective habits and inter-individual relationships. The repetition of the format, the quasi-monochrome aspect, and the distance from the subject add to this impression…
Blue Mood…getting the blues.
